Hullo there, I'm interested in more info on a Postumus coin, I'm wondering about the date, I believe towards the end of the reign as it appears to have a silver wash? also the common question of real vs fake though despite being an amateur I believe it's real, thanks guys, I wen't for this one because I thought the portrait was awesome

Welcome, aec1985. Nice looking coin.

Most of the Postumus/Jupiter antoniniani of this type that I see at CNG state that they were struck in 268 AD.

I think your coin is billon, not bronze with a silver wash. It is authentic almost without question.

The full curly beard is associated with the portraiture of his fourth and fifth consulates, which are dated to 267 and 268 respectively, well after the time he had relocated the primary mint to Cologne.

Your coin is listed as RIC 309 from Cologne.

I agree, authentic and a very nice specimen!

I would put it into a 2x2 or a similar holder--your coin has a nasty crack that looks like it could easily split the coin in half if it was dropped or jostled too much.

Very sharp portrait on obverse. Reverse die was severely worn though.

First off, welcome.

Great looking coin to start off with here, and I agree there's nothing whatsoever to suggest that it's anything but the real deal. Terrifically well rendered and preserved portrait, and I think the reverse is not at all bad, either.

thanks for the excellent info everyone The 2x2 is a sound idea, fortunately the coin is thick and feels very solid so it should be safe despite the crack, which I believe would take some force to break. weighs 3.7g. anybody know where you can buy 2x2's where you can open them when you wish... perhaps with a clip or Velcro rather than them being stapled?

couple of head on closer pics, thanks everyone
