I just received a 1956-1984 Lincoln folder from Gary Burke and as I was checking the coins I noticed a raised ridge behind Abe's head. Is this common? Is it a die crack? There is no sign of it on the reverse.

They had a lot of trouble with gas during that era. You'll see all sorts of bubbles and bumps.

A stripe of impurity was on the zinc when it was plated in copper. The result is a swollen area around the stripe of gunk that now sits inside the coin under the copper. Very common, especially for early zinc cents, like Becky said.
