While we're on the subject of noodling, here's my latest set of noodling stats, obtained between February and July 2016. These are the corresponding sample sizes, which I hope are big enough to be reliable: 5c: 5740 ($287) 10c: 8132 ($813.20) 20c: 5491 ($1098.20) 50c: 3596 ($1798) $1: 3118 ($3118) $2: 4498 ($8996) Combining all this information together, I have determined that the 30 most difficult (circulating) coins to noodle are as follows: 1. 1985 10c 2. 1972 5c 3. 2001 20c - TAS, ACT, NI 6. 2013 $2 - Coronation (Purple) & 2014 Remembrance Day (Green) 8. 2001 50c - NI 9. 1995 20c - United Nations 10. 2015 $2 - ANZAC Day (Red) 11. 2001 20c - QLD, NT, WA 14. 1985 50c, 1991 50c - Decimal (Ram) & 2001 50c - ACT, NT, WA 19. 2015 $1 - ANZAC 20. 2001 50c - NSW & TAS 22. 2011 10c 23. 2001 20c - NSW, VIC, SA & 2011 20c - Royal Wedding 27. 1991 10c 28. 2015 $2 - Remembrance Day (Orange) 29. 1993 50c & 2001 50c - SA Is this similar to what other people have found? That's an admirable comprehensive tally. I found my '72 5c in a large lot. Toughest for me was the '68.

Hi everyone, I'm your typical long time reader, first time poster...in particular stats is a particular interest of mine. Before I stumbled upon this forum, I was taking stats on coins by year only, regardless if it was a commemorative or not. I wanted to put this up once I found my last elusive 20c coin, but I suppose I could do it again when I do get it. And here is my findings so far: A grand total of 19,858 20 cent coins.

Mint Set, you've done very well to collect such detailed statistics. I always get bogged down trying to keep track of varieties and errors, which can be notoriously difficult due to their subjective nature. I suspect the 1985 and 1991 coins you found came from mint sets. We know that no 20c coins were minted for circulation in 1991, and although they did make some for 1985, I doubt they would have released them until they'd used up the 1983 and 1984 ones (which were eventually melted down ). The 1995 UN one is notoriously difficult to find in circulation, and as a result, I've become increasingly doubtful about whether the stated mintage figure (4.8 million) is accurate. It's possible that many people hoarded it because it was the only commemorative 20c coin in circulation for 6 years, but at the end of the day, who really cares about the United Nations? I'm surprised you've had so much trouble finding the Queensland CoF 20c. We were absolutely flooded with them back in 2001, and I still occasionally find one while noodling. My nemesis has always been the Tasmanian one. I reckon they're still trying to get to the other side of Bass Strait.

Hi Hercules, I've been still waiting to do another update once I get Qld 2001, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. You say you have heaps...I went to the coin dealer before I posted the initial chart to get an uncirculated one, just to say I've got one. I said I've been having trouble getting one, and also at the time I didn't have a WA one either (in the next couple of weeks I got 4). He told me that each state got more of their particular coin. My findings certainly corroborate that. The UN coin - when I had nine of those, I only had two volunteers coins to that point. Now, I seem to get 2-4 volunteers for every $200 sifted through. So, here is every denomination, with 996 5c; 3291 10c; 26575 20c; 3426 50c; 998 $1 and 2247 $2. There are 7 coins I need all up through noodling, however I got three of those through change: The last one I needed was last years 5c coin - I've never seen one in change yet 1985 10c was the last here As noted, the WA was the last I got The rams head was the last here (today in fact); however I already got one in change a few months ago The 2014 MOR is one I don't have The 2012 red poppy and 2014 remembrance day are the other two I don't have. The 2015 ANZAC coin was the first 2015 coin I ever got in change. I also got a QEII in change this year, and got another one off my brother.

Quote: I've been still waiting to do another update once I get Qld 2001, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. You say you have heaps I wouldn't quite put it that way. There were many circulating in Brisbane back in 2001/2002, but I was still a kid then, and I had no income, so I had to get my parents' permission every time I wanted to keep one, and they were always quite stingy about this. Before the CoF coins came out, I was only allowed to keep one of each circulating coin, but because the CoF coins were so nice, I was allowed to keep three of each. Most of the ones I've found since then have been in such poor condition that I've put them straight back into the pond, although I have kept a few more just in case. Quote:
He told me that each state got more of their particular coin. Maybe, but there are far more SA 20c in Brisbane at the moment than any of the other CoF ones. Perhaps no one liked the SA design, so they kept putting it back into circulation. Quote: The UN coin - when I had nine of those, I only had two volunteers coins to that point. Quote: The last one I needed was last years 5c coin - I've never seen one in change yet They obviously weren't sent to Adelaide. There are plenty up here in Brisbane, but no 2016s. Quote: 1985 10c was the last here Same with me. I've been through over $950 worth of 10c coins, and only found one of them. The other coloured coins are notoriously difficult to find in circulation, but they can still be found if you do enough noodling. I'm still a bit upset with myself that I haven't noodled all the Woollies coins yet, but I guess I just have to be patient and let it happen in its own time.

Or there were more minted than what was stated ;) Quote: Which volunteers coin are you talking about? 2003 or 2011? Sorry, 2003; I keep all of the 2003 ones I can find - it's a nice coin Quote: The 2012 red poppy isn't a circulating coin, because it was distributed in folders by the RSL. Ah, that's what I get for just taking that off of the RAM site. I wondered why you didn't have that in your tally.

I used to think the red poppy coin was a circulating release as well, but I've been told by other much more experienced collectors on this forum that it did not circulate. There are a few people who claim to have found one in their change, but that's probably because a few people who got them from the RSL decided to spend them.
