With just over a month to go untill the next generation five dollar banknote release date of the 1st of September 2016....... Does anyone know of how this banknote is planned to be released? Come on banknote lovers...... Somebody must know something? How can we buy them..... And when will we see the RBA info regarding the print run details?

With a month to go information is very scarce on the ground. (unless someone has managed to get some information by email) The last media release by the RBA was back in April when the release date was announced.
The questions I have are:
- How will the new note be distributed? - Will first and last prefixes be available? - Will old style notes continue to circulate until they wear out or will they be actively withdrawn? - Will the 2014 and 2015 notes be released into circulation and will first and last prefixes be available for these? - What is the timetable for the rest of the denominations?
I guess time will tell

Will these banknotes actually have "SPECIMEN" printed on them, and if so, how will that affect their value? How do you get CFU banknotes without the word "SPECIMEN" printed on them?

I doubt very much that they will have the word "SPECIMEN" printed on them. That is just a requirement to stop people printing them from the internet to create forgeries

No specimens were issued, that was a legal requirement. Also they sold out at Australia Post.

Also they sold out at Australia Post. I called them earlier today, and they said they were still taking phone orders. They seem to have been woefully underprepared for the numismatic onslaught, so I ended up getting mine straight from the bank. I reckon things will settle down over the next few weeks, but if not, I'll just have to buy the sets off a bunch of scalpers, who raided the Australia Post website during the wee hours of the morning.

Australia post must have a certain amount they put on, say 500 and when that sells out it is sold out, then they must reset it. But both are available now.
Specimen, so if someone prints it to use, people will know it is not legal tender or at least suspect because it has specimen on it.

Ok peps.... Now that we have seen in the flesh the next generation five dollar note and I must say it's much better looking once you have one in your hand! Question? WHATS the last prefix? As the RBA's a little slow to providing us that info does anyone know anything? Would love to know! And what's with the first prefix AA16 seems to be fetching around $90 per note on ebay, Madness.

There are 10,000,000 of these AA notes So that doesn't strike me as being in the rare/valuable category. I would think that the people that are forking out $90 a pop for these are unaware of this or are taking Grandma's "Happy pills"

I'm just going to be patient and pick mine up for a fraction of the price in a few weeks time. Thats what I've done with the colored $2 coins. There will be no shortage of AA16 $5 notes.

Quote: There will be no shortage of AA16 $5 notes. There is in my area, but I don't care because I think the first and last prefixes are overrated. Unless you're collecting notes as a form of investment, there isn't any good reason for collecting AA16 over any of the other prefixes. Keep in mind that the new $5 notes have an extra digit in their serial numbers, so there could potentially be up to 10 million with the first prefix (as opposed to 1 million previously). Personally, I've got better things to do with my life than to go rushing from bank to bank, trying to collect what ought to be a very common note. The market will soon be glutted with them, and they won't be worth anything more than $5.

BTW, I'm betting that DA16 will be the last prefix, simply because the extra digit in the serial number will prevent them from having to move any further down the alphabet.

I disagree as EF prefix I've seen on ebay, and as far as 10 million notes per prefix I'm thinking they won't print passed 200,000 per prefix. Just a guess
