I came across this coin a few weeks ago and had to have it at the price it was listed (local LCS). Its not often I see this year in this condition and was happy to add it to my collection. Any thoughts on grade? The fields seem hazy which makes me think it has had an old cleaning but I am no expert.

Better "hazy" fields than glossy ones. Get the coin into really bright light, and scrutinize it at various angles - whether that reveals hairlines or not will tell the story, even if the cleaning was a long time ago.
Overall, that's an attractive specimen. I see a bit of high point abrasion that might take it down into the AU range, but I couldn't argue with an MS grade if it came back at that.
The real issue is the possibility of the dreaded "details" annotation. The loalized toning is not of the sort that makes me suspect an overall cleaning, and a recent "dip" would also seem to be contraindicated.
Are you considering submitting it for certification?

I concur with the hairlines searching. I've come across a number of Caballito pesos that looked nice, but ended up grading as details - hairlines.
It is an attractive coin, nonetheless. Can I ask what you got it for?

Ill try to get better pictures but there are not visible hairlines and there is some rub along the high points. I am considering submitting it and would be happy if it came back AU with no cleaning issues. I paid $85 which is half of what I almost paid for a much more common 1910 Caballito in not as nice condition.

Let me tell you how well you made out on this. I was in one of my favorite haunts today, and they had just gotten in a bunch of certified Mexican silver coins, one of which was a 1910 Caballito, NGC MS63. When I ezamined this specimen, I was appalled. Plenty of tiny nicks to the surfaces. The horse's hooves were worn down almost smooth, and the snake's body was just barely above the eagle's breast. I'd have pegged it at XF45 at best. One of the most egregiously misgraded coins from NGC I've ever seen, but since it was in that slab, it was tagged at $220. They already weren't particularly happy with me when I expressed my opinion, so taking pictures or writing down the certification number was out of the question, but tke my word, it was just the most obviously ridiculous grade I'd seen in quite some time, not even close.

Lucky Cuss Since these coins captured my attention a couple of years back I have come across the same issue, poor quality coins that seem over graded. Mainly this has been with raw coins and so I have been leaning towards a nice graded example. Unfortunately, the condition of graded coins left me unimpressed in a lot of cases, granted this was mostly based on online pictures.
My local dealer was out of town this week so it will be another few weeks before I can get his opinion on this sample. I will keep you guys posted.

I was able to see my dealer friend and he thought it was a nice AU example that may sneak into MS territory. I am happy if it comes back AU 58 so we will submit it and see what kind of luck we have.
