I found this beauty roll hunting but I havent ever seen one with this coloring before? It is more of a burgandy color other than the high profile on Lincoln which is brown. It really doesn't show any wear like most circulated coinage does...very few if any flaws as far as scratches or dings. The wheat on the back has very defined lines throughout the design. Any and all info would be appreciated!

to CCF fellow namesake . It looks like it was painted red a long time ago and after circulating for years the high points have worn away showing the copper underneath.Value= Two Cents, because that is the average value of a Wheat cent in that condition

It was either painted of stained a long time ago, and circulation took the paint/ stain off the high points.

Looking at the reverse, perhaps the discoloration and verdigris were from the coin being buried before it re-entered circulation.

Good golly, I'm in word geek heaven here. I have learned two new words in two days - stack (as a noun and a verb) as in "I'm stacking Silver Eagles, because I think silver prices are near the bottom."

And now, verdigris: n. a green or bluish patina formed on copper, brass, or bronze surfaces exposed to the atmosphere for long periods of time, consisting principally of basic copper sulfate. [1250-1300; Middle English vertegrez < Old French vere grez green of Greece].

Random House Kernerman Webster's College Dictionary, 2010. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/verdigris
