So, I have been ordering coins now for about 2 weeks and have been doing pretty good I think. I have been ordering 2000 in halves a week and dumping them at other local banks. Today I went in one bank I dumped at and a lady approached me and asked if I was finding any silver. I said a few. And she said well I think you are defeating the purpose. She said he coin carrier said I was getting the same coins because they just get recycled and bring them back. And then I went to my pickup bank today and the person I deal with asked if I was cashing the coins local. I had been doing a few local and taking some about 40 miles away. I told her yes and I also took some 40 miles away, but not to one of their banks. So apparently the coin courier and the bank I dump at has been talking about me and what I'm doing. And he has been talking to the bank I pickup with and told them I was getting the same recycled coin. Is it not against the law for the coin courtier and banks to talk about their customers and what they are doing? I told the bank I pickup at that I had been finding some and that I was not getting the same recycled coin.

I don't know if it's against the law, though I would find it aggravating for sure.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

Unless they are sharing your personally identifying information (full name, acct number, SS number, address etc) I doubt they are breaking any law or company policy.

It is definitely aggravating! It may not be against the law, but it is unfair! Maybe the coin courier is a coin roll hunter himself and trying to discourage the banks and me!

It sounds like you are "making a splash" in a small town, so people are talking about it. Let them talk. As long as your pickup and deposit banks say yes to your orders and deposits, you have it made.

It sounds like you are generating a lot of work for people that you are not paying and they are trying to find a way to discourage you from your behavior. It is neither illegal nor unethical for them to do so. They are certainly not in business to help you cull change for silver.

I don't agree with most of you here, I think it is 100% unethical for any bank employee to discuss anyone's banking habits, this should be a hard fast line 0 tolerance.
its one thing to discuss bank members with other employess (most people in the bank will know us) but to discuss members with outside personal is a Personal security breach.
Personally I would be speaking to the branch manager about this situation.
There is a reason why they say "loose lips sink ships"

Face it banks and Armored Car companies hate coin roll hunters. They affect the bottom line. More and more banks and CUs are charging for rolls . As to privacy issues they should not be discussing bank customers. That as Ace said is a no no.

Wonder if I should call the coin courier and tell them that their deliverers are discussing private information and discouraging the banks from placing my orders. After all, Aren't the coin couriers making money off the bank's orders?

Let it go....not like they put up a wanted sign with your name and picture on it.....your cell phone likely tracks and sells more personal info about you than bank employees ever will......just mho...

While I agree that CRH is a burden on the banks and they have every right to charge fees for handing coin, I feel that such reckless sharing of information is how people end up getting robbed.

I agree I don't think they have any right to say anything to anyone outside of the bank employees, in fact they may even have to sign non disclosure and or be bondable to work there.
Now, Big7Mag, they may not have specifically called you out by name, they may have said something like "oh we have this one guy who dumps these" (I would more imagine that is how the convo went)
However I would still discuss the matter with the branch manager.

Quote: Much scarier things to worry about though..... Of course, there are many things which are beyond our control, but that is never an excuse to ignore what is within it. Seems like another reason to just give up such large scale CRH.

So let me get this straight... you are causing a lot of extra work for a few people, and they are discussing the annoyance of you to each other.. and you think that might be illegal? Let me put it another way. YOU are hear discussing the annoyance of what THEY are doing. Are YOU being illegal? Nope.
