So I'm looking for some input on finding silver in bank rolled coins. Most of the research I have done suggests that the weight difference between pre 65 and 65 to present means the coins get sorted out by the big coin wrapping companies and hence taken out of circulation. The exception is silver War Nickels. What is everyone's experience with bank boxes of dimes, quarters, and half dollars? I have searched 3 boxes of halfs and found no silver. Is it worth the effort or should I rely on customer rolled for silver?

I know that some silver coins are found in circulation. But I dont think it is a everyday occurence.
The people I see finding them are from customer wrapped rolls.
Might be good to post this question in the Coin Roll hunters sections of CCF

I was doing halves for the past three months and found mostly 40% silvers. At least one in every two boxes of bank wrapped rolls. The last box I did, I found two Franklins and 3 40%. The bank wouldn't order me boxes anymore though.

I found two silver dimes in machine-wrapped rolls in the last month. So, to answer your question: yes!

Yes there is. I am currently at 36.82 oz of silver found in circulation this year.

You've only sampled three boxes. Report back when at least 20-30 boxes of halves are under your belt.
My scores including well over a dozen randomn solid silver rolls of halves were made mostly cold calling banks (figuratively) and snatching up customer-wrapped rolls. From 2009-2015. Halves really don't circulate today, but they get dumped from collections time to time, or they sit in waiting until someone unknowingly cashes in.
Just for instance my silver dime average up until a year or so ago was 1/$150 and I piled through close to $100,000 worth. That's how much I loved it!

The last three times (over the past year) I went down to Austin I got silver in change. Two Roosevelt dimes and a Washington quarter. I also go two winged liberty dimes (at two separate times) at the same store here in NW NJ.

Yeah most of my silver has come from customer rolls. One bank I found a roll containing 14 Franklin halfs, 3 64 Kennedy, and 3 S mint Kennedy proofs. Oldest was a 1919 walking liberty. Just had a dry spell of customer rolled and wanted to see how bank boxes would pay out.

I have gone through 4086 half dollars, the equivalent of 4 boxes + 4 rolls. I have found 16 40% & 4 90%, 2 64 Kennedy & 2 Bennies. Yes, if you are patient and keep at it they are out there. I have had better luck with customer wrapped rolls.

Can't say much about bank rolls, but silver is still circulating, to some extent. The owner of a coffee stand here says he's getting three or four dollars a week in silver coins. Folks just love their coffee.
He's filling a 5-gallon water jug with it, doing a good job, too.

I picked up a 1961 Franklin proof at my favorite convenience store yesterday. Not in the greatest shape but I'll take it. Sweet!
