I did post this the other day in the TPG section, when I
the last group of coins from ANACS.

I thought I should post it here to show that ANACS does not
"Details" every coin.

Had to look at the coin .. those blue dots must have been
something on the slab

Beautiful example. I think the suggestions about ANACS detailing everything were just hyperboles, jokes so to speak.

You are most likely right.

There is a lot of joking here on CCF .. and that's ok too

Looking back, 7 of the 10 coins I sent in came back Details.

The lesson learned, be very selective in the coins I select
to send in.

I did know 2 of the coins were cleaned .. 2 others were
not mine. And I did not really look at those two.

So .. three were a little of a suprise

Nice, what happened to the morgan that they conserved without your consent?

I've noticed several threads where it seems ANACS are especially hard graders. I always thought they were usually considered the #3 grader in part because they graded easy. What is it that makes PCGS #1 and these guys behind them and NGC?

I'm particularly interested because I have some coins that are worth $50-100. That's too low value to be worth submitting to PCGS, but ANACS seems cheap enough to justify it. But I'm wondering if it is still worth it. For the sake of discussion, I plan on bringing them to be graded at a show next month so I don't need to worry about shipping costs. Also, I have two valuable coins (1909S VDB cent & 1937D 3 leg Buffalo nickel) I want slabbed. I figured I'd include them in an ANACS submission, but maybe not?

Simple answer: ANACS holders lack consistency over the long history of the company, which has had different owners, different slabs, varying standards and a general history of sloppiness in its grading going back over many years. They charge less because, taken over a long span, their opinions have proven to be worth less in the open market.

Coins like 09S VDB and 3 leg Buffalo are worthy of being in a NGC or
PCGS holder. But if I was keeping them for my collection, I would have
no problem sending them into ANACS.

$50 to $100 coins I would not send into NGC or PCGS, because of the cost
of grading. If I wanted them in slabs ... I would send them into ANACS.

I would have to think hard on coins that could be considered problem coins.
I think ANACS is being strict on problem coins.

Thanks for the quick replies. That makes sense about why ANACS isn't in the same tier as PCGS & NGC. I'll take all the coins I'm interested in having graded to the show next month and decide there how best to go about it. Though I guess for PCGS show submission I'd have to be a member. I'll do the math to see if it is worth joining at the $150 level to get 4 free gradings. Probably not the lower value coins (which I may still do with ANACS) but the two valuable ones I mentioned and two other of my more valuable coins.

In case it makes any difference, the show I'm talking about is the World's Fair of Money in Anaheim, CA
