I would like to know if anyone in the last ten years of searching bank-rolls has ever found a Flying Eagle cent or Shield nickel. (I'm not asking about coinstar finds, metal detecting finds, etc., but just coin roll hunting finds). Also, if you were so lucky, do tell if was it was a customer-wrapped roll or machine-wrapped roll. Photos would be great! If you have found these, don't be shy, tell us, and give the rest of us hope! Thanks.
A good reminder. In another forum, we had a scrolling banner with "A Search is a terrible thing to waste." Stateside folks might recall the commercial we ripped off.
But that said, doing Searches on subjects usually provides more than expected. Clicking on the links often times opens new, unexpected learning. Have fun...give it a try.
You should find a Flying Eagle cent. As I recall, a brand new CRH enthusiast found one in the first box searched. Real beginner's luck. Hard to top that going forward.
But yes on both items. They are out there....just impossibly hard to find.
Doing 2 boxes of nickels a week for the last 5 years I have never found a Shield nickel. I have found several (15+) V nickels and somewhere around 100 Buffalo nickels.
In my first box of nickels I found a corroded 1883 with cents V nickel. I have it in my Dansco even though I have a non corroded yet lesser grade one so that I can remember that day over again whenever I get the album out. So I know it can happen if someone claims they found a Flying Eagle cent in their first box. The CRH gods are evil and tempt you with your first hit is free and you keep chasing the dragon that there is another good box out there if you just keep searching week after week.
Surprisingly enough, I've found an 1820 large cent in a customer roll before. It was beat up pretty bad but I could see the date. Ive found 1 Flying Eagle cent but no date was legible. No Shield nickels though

Ha... It was not found in a cent roll, hence the name 'large cent'. It actually came out of a roll of halves and at first I thought it was probably a foreign coin, but upon further inspection the details told me where it was from. Anyways, here are the pics:
