Where Is The Mintmark On Peace Dollars?

Ozland Pillar of the Community United States 709 Posts	Posted 02/29/2008 8:57 pm The Mint mark on the Peace dollar is on the reverse just to the left of the end tail feather of the eagle. If there is no mint mark, it is from Philadelphia. A 'S' would be from San Francisco and a 'D' would be minted in Denver. Report this Post to the Staff

Ozland Pillar of the Community United States 709 Posts	Posted 02/29/2008 9:18 pm As a beginner, the die pairs that were used on the 1923-P Peace dollar have been primarily identified by Leroy Van Allen and George A. Mallis and have been assigned VAM numbers signifying a variety from a normal die. VAM is short for Van Allen & Mallis. Your 1923-P has at least 67 known varieties and the number is growing. Most of these varieties are minor in nature, although there are several that are quite spectacular and worth significant premiums.
