I picked this 1883 No Cents Liberty nickel yesterday. What would you grade it? Is there a chance it could be a proof? It has nice reflective surfaces. Thank you.

How sharp is the rim? If its sharp it might be a proof. Cant tell, but the coin looks odd... Might be a proof, but it also looks like it might be cleaned?

AU Details cleaned until we can get a better look.

I think these pictures will help. I don't think it's cleaned and I don't see wear on the coin.

If it's not a proof the strike is hammered. All the stars and the left ear of corn appear complete.

Can you please explain what means dave700x. Is what you described characteristics of a proof strike?

It's a strong strike but it does not look proof to me. I'd be at MS-65 on this one.

Hammered is a term used for a fully struck intended for circulation coin.

Im at MS-62. Look at all the hits on the obverse, plus the fact that the reverse picture IS TOO SMALL TO GRADE.

Not a proof and still might be cleaned. Typically coins are not supposed to look like proofs unless they ARE proofs.

Solid MS 63 even with that fairly deep hit on the obverse.

63/64 area. the luster appears broken across the surfaces, however, the lighting could be skewing it
