Greek Aoe Owl Ancient Silver Coin - Is It Real?

nosar New Member Switzerland 7 Posts	Posted 07/26/2016 6:53 pm I purchased this coin recently: The seller didn't know exactly what the coin was. Can someone tell me by the pictures if this coin is real or fake? What raises me most suspicions is the kind of S mark on the owl. I did the magnet test and it's not magnetic, so I suppose it is really silver? I would like to hear the opinion of someone who know. Thank you! Report this Post to the Staff

The stamp on the reverse, above the owl's talon, may suggest that there was no intention to deceive...not sure, though. Report this Post to the Staff

Some are so well done that it is very easy to even fool long time collectors. That being said your coin looks to be struck and not cast. It appears very well made. However the mark on the reverse is supposed to be a counter mark, it doesn't look right to me. It looks too new. I have doubts about this coin. Can you provide the size and weight of it?
