to CCF. What does the reverse look like? Could be a struck through debris. John1

Thanks alot for the welcome...! Heres the reverse side...pretty clean for its age....No evidence of any schrapnel causing the indentation in Abes head....its pretty deep like a crater with an ear at the bottom...LOL.... The Wheat stalks seem a tad askew too...

Hard to say what it is. Is it raised or incuse? With it rotated like that it makes it a hard call.

Hi guys...Its an actual crater incused in. Some other online expert said it was a bad planchet error with excessive grease on the die....I have grease damaged coins....They dont look like that....LOL Its over a millimeter deep Ill try to get some better pics up where you can see the outside of the eartop a few times around the hole.. Theres an ear at the bottom of the hole and the bottom of the hole is as smooth as the face of the penny so it hasnt been altered after leaving the mint like other online experts suggest unless the person who did the handiwork is exceptionally good at what he/she does.... I think somebody working at the mint got bored one day and created some excitement by mocking Lincolns fateful shot to the head but couldnt do it accurately due to Lincoln facing to his Left [our right] killing any chances of anyone ever creating a true 100% historically correct recreation...

I edited the image a bit. I can see where there is a ghost image of the ear. So I ruled out PSD. (reverse didn't show a bulge either opposite this) I thought about a lamination because of the ghost image of the ear, or a pre strike lamination leaving that like a crater. it would still shape that area like a ghost. There may have been a bod spot in the stock material that fell out before the strike. That is the only think I can think of causing this issue.

I did some pretty creative photographing with my cruddy Samsung S4....LOL I used the optical reader program then blew up the area and screenshotted it........... I hope everybody else will see what I do a tad bit clearer......I hate photography cause its trickier than building a 3500hp engine to me....LOL Thanks to all who have contributed thus far...Nice editing of the pic coop!

This coin should be a bit light in weight.

I just weighed it.....Its not light...Its actually a tad heavy.....Its just licking 3.2 grams...3.19 to be exact....LOL
Im sure if had been weighed in 1952 it would of easily came up 3.2grams....
The US mint declares that US currency like pennies holds an average lifespan of 25 years max....That 52 has held up pretty well for being circulated.....

I just got done watching a documentary on the new and improved mint back in 1939/1940 timeframe....
I saw how pennies were made prior to post 1982.....
I saw the copper being smelted and how they figured the exact mixture each and every batch they smelted....
I saw the ingots pop out of the molds 13" long dull as heck then rolled between high pressure rollers 22 times each til they were 13" wide by 33ft long
Maybe back in 52 the mixture got messed up and the copper was made a tad harder or the rollers were set a tad too light thus making the copper sheet a bit short and a tad thicker...
Im gonna be weighing all my good condition 1952D wheat pennies to see if theyre heavier than normal tolerances as per govt rules and regulations regarding size and weight of legal US coin currency....
