I found this coin tonight in a bank roll. At first I thought it was a Dryer Coin, and then I thought it was a grease coin. And then I got confused. Is this an error? The reverse looks normal. The obverse doesn't have the smoothness of the struck-through grease coins I have seen. At a certain angle I can see the first three numbers of the date as 199[]. Thoughts?

It might be struck through a die cap. Let's wait for the experts though.

I think Rackster is right. Not fully sure though

It does not look like PMD to me, but I have to admit, I have never seen one like it before. Can we see the edges?

Would go with possible struck through capped die, except the obverse rim seems to well defined. So I'm on the fence again between that or possible ( PSD) mutilation. Thanks, Doug. edit: as I previously left out "struck through" above. Will also add the reverse could look normal in that situation. The new pics below make the rim look more sloped though.

Yes I agree the reverse is normal which it wouldnt be if it were a capped die was what I was saying.... I'm thinking its gotta be Struck Through Grease, no idea why it looks like that tho less its PSD along with it

Looks like it was struck through a deteriorating die cap. It is wearing thin at this point, thus the detail from the obverse die is showing through.

That's a head scratcher for me, my guess is a deteriorated die cap. At first I thought it was a Greaser but the obverse surface texture is odd. I can tell it's a zinc, can you see the last digit in the date? Hope that Mike Diamond will chime in.
