If you have any information that would help identify this coin: date, origin etc, it would be appreciated. Approx 19mm diameter 5 grams. Thanks in advance.

Is that the total weight including the bezel? What is the diameter of the coin?

If you read, the OP included that info.

I'm inclined to say an old Spanish 1 real.

Looks like a "dateless" Philip II, Potosi Mint (Modern day Bolivia), one Real, with Assayer initial "A" and two lis in the shield. These features would place its date of manufacture between 1586 and 1591. It was valued at four thousand Spanish pesetas in my reference book (about $28.50 in U.S. Dollars) but that is for a coin without environmental issues. The shield side is front and cross on the back. The image of the shield is upside down. Enough detail is there to pin it down quite well. If it came with a particular shipwreck's provenance then that adds to its value.
