Hello all new here and I just purchased my first round of 1999-s silver states and I had heard some where that we should take them out of the plastic holders that the mint puts them in. Any thoughts?

Regards

In my experience I have seen some silver State Quarters tone in OGP
holders. I have also has some for several years that have not toned.

What would you put them in?

The best thing you can do is keep them in a humidity controlled environment.

Thanks GR58 my thinking was to put them in air tights (or the knock-offs) what do you think of that?

If you are looking to move the coins to different holders in an effort to better preserve their original state over the long term, Air-Tite holders are an excellent choice.

I would suggest, however, that you spend a few cents extra per holder and purchase the actual Air-Tite brand holders vs. knockoffs. The quality of Air-Title holders is well-known and has been established over many years. Who knows what long-term results you will get with knockoffs?

My mantra, if something is worth collecting, it's worth preserving properly.

I agree with Commems on the ain't-tite holders. To me the knockoffs do
not hold up. They easily scratched and get cloudy.

-------------------------------

If I remember right 1999 silver proof sets had a high of $300, I think
the set now has a greysheet price of $75.

I hope this price is the bottom. If it is the bottom, it could be a long time
to see the price increase.

The OGP is not sealed, so they offer no better protection than a Dansco album, where I have moved most of my proof set coins.

With that begin said, if you want the best protection, I agree with the Air-Tite recommendation.

Regardless of the holder you choose, you want to keep them in an environment with stable temperature and low humidity.
