Hello all. I have been collecting coins since I was 15 years old, I'm going on 45 now. Most coins were found in my pocket change but was lucky enough to receive a small box of old coins from my grandfather as well. One or two bought from the mint.
I also started metal detecting about a year ago and in that time I have found more old copper and silver coins than what I've found in the past 30 years looking through my change. Almost all of them in much better condition, after a light soap and water cleaning, than the others.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello and that I'm excited to learn more about grading and error varieties of which I almost know nothing about. I'll try and post some pics of my finds also.
Cheers Michael

Glad to have you. I have never tried metal detecting. Maybe you will have to share one of your latest finds here.

Ok here's one of my latest finds. The coin appears to be scratched but it's just where the layer of dirt was rubbed off. I'll try and get a newer photo later of after a light rinse under warm water to remove the dust.

Found about 6" in the dirt at an old church site from the early 1800s.
