Hey there everyone, newbie here from Ohio. I've started hunting 09-29 LWC, so far about 16 to go, including the keys obviously.
I am more interested in actually finding coins, not just going and buying the dates I need off of ebay or something although probably will have to do that for some.
Does anyone have any good resource for truly unsearched wheat rolls or lots? I feel at least half the fun of this is discovering them yourself...just don't want to buy junk lots that only have real common stuff...obviously don't expect to find the top 3 but...
Also - is CRH for other coins (nickels, dimes, halfs etc) still a viable way to find good stuff? Or does it depend on where you live?
Glad for any pointers. Feeling bitten by the bug here
Cheers

Welcome. I found most of the common LWC from bulk buys. Like you said it is harder to find the less common ones that way. I filed in most of the set with bulk searches then progressed to buying the ones missing from local coin stores. I am still missing the key ones. Over time I have been upgrading the set as time and money allow. Finishing the set with high quality coins is the goal, but the quest is the greatest enjoyment.

Hi MoochCoin, welcome to the forum!
From what I have read on this forum, it seems that cents and half dollars are the best coins for Coin Roll Hunting. Since half dollars don't circulate that much, you are more likely to find silver and coins not intended for circulation (NIFC). Nickels can be good for finding semi-key dates of Jeffersons, but your chances of finding buffaloes are not that great. Dimes aren't that great for finding old coins either, but some people have had mild success. Small dollar coins aren't looked at much because there aren't many special coins to look for, but you are more likely to find NIFC coins that Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, or even Cents. Quarters are the hardest to find anything worth keeping. Since quarters circulate the most, if any silver or impaired proof quarters are spent, they are likely to be pulled out of circulation right away.

Welcome to the forum!

It will definitely be a challenge to find the semi-keys (earlier S mints and some D mints) in circulation; not impossible but it will take some time. The key dates you will have to buy. Good luck with the hunt!

I have had pretty good luck CRH'ing cents and nickles, not so much luck with other types of coins.

OK, a quick update. I stopped by the bank today on another errand, and decided to ask the teller if she had any penny rolls (planning to do my first CRH). She gave me one wheatie no questions asked out of the till plus some penny rolls that she just got...Then on a whim asked about halfs. She had 7 rolls of halfs recently brought in so I decided to take them. End result: 1 x 1950 D Franklin (pretty clean), 5 x 1967 Kennedys and 1 x 69 Kennedy!! First time!
Haven't started the penny rolls yet, got 7 rolls to get thru...wow I am pumped!

Best deal I found was at a local coin shop; $8 for 200 Wheaties, & the bag included 6 Indian Head cents !

MoochCoin!

The guys and gals in the Coin Roll Hunting forum [ http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...FORUM_ID=147 ] share a wealth of great info. I've mainly been a lurker in that forum thus far, but I too met some very nice tellers at two branches of my bank and now have a bunch of rolls to search! So far the half dollar rolls have been the best - similar to you, I've found at least one silver in each one.
