Please let me know if this coin... a) looks cleaned or otherwise adulterated; b) if it is considered a 'Large Letters' type; and c) what grade you would deem appropriate. Thank you!

Thank you beaglebailey, on both counts. I would try to move the post but I would probably muck it up. I see what you mean about the numbers. I compared it to a photo of a genuine coin and these numbers are definitely wrong - much too blobby, unlike the crisper lines on the real thing.

Good catch on the date not being correct. I had no idea so many fake existed prior to joining CCF. Glad I did before buying a fake.

See this thread in the nefarious ebay sellers forum for more about the sneaky you-know-what who included this coin in a lot of 500 wheaties as an enticement to buy more lots, which worked on me. https://goccf.com/t/266452#266452Learning more everyday, Mark

The 58 has a couple of red flags. When I look at the breast of the eagle, the coin looks uncirculated. The details on the top wing are very poor and do not match the breast area the high point on the coin. There is also a pot mark on the wing. The wear on the reverse does not match the obverse as on the Eagle the first area to wear is the breast under the wing. In the word cent part or the E is missing and part of the N is missing on a genuine coin this could be caused by a die fill. All the above would get my attention as the the coin could be a counterfeit.

Must agree the date digits lack sharpness and consistency - especially the "1", which is not correct at all (the flag on the "1" should point straight out, virtually parallel to the base).
Counterfeit.

I got bad vibes from it as well. Good to see my gut is still working properly.

Thanks y'all! Very helpful feedback. This ebay seller has sold other counterfeit coins, the scoundrel.
