Too far and too much $ for me. Why the ANA would hold this event on the coast rather somewhere accessible to all is beyond me.

I live too far away to go, but I will enjoy seeing what others get at the show...

I would love to go, but yeah, no, I will not be there.

As per usual I will live vicariously through those who attend and show us their gets.
Rest in Peace

Have fun Cascade.

Hard to believe no one else from the site is going. Maybe they'll post later on. Hope so.

Not I, first ANA I'll miss in 3 years... sigh...

The ANA shows fall between a rock and a hard place - one of the show planners popped up on one of the message boards a year back and gave us chapter and verse...

* Has to be somewhere that wants us (most convention venues do not, because we're cheapskates and don't buy enough meals and room nights - a Doctor's 3 day convention is good for 1000 room nights and 1500 meals). If you commit to the nights & meals you get discounts on the space rental.
* Has to be somewhere we can afford - high fees are one way venues get past the meals/room nights issue...
* Membership wants it to be convenient to them without a fly / big drive (but membership lives all over the country)
* Dealers hate always going to the same place every year
* Has to be somewhere with decent air service to the rest of the country (zero/one stop) so dealers can get to the show

BStrauss3, thanks for that information.

"Cheapskates" made me laugh but I suppose it is very true, especially when compared to product shows and the like.

I gave up on the ANA World's Fair of Money.
Been to one in Wash, DC, and one in New Orleans.
Dealers appear to bring only their top-of-the-line material.
Plus prices in general seem too high.

Rest in Peace

But I still love to go. I visit all the club tables and do all the stuff a tourist would do -- visit the mint tables and look at the exhibits. I shop very little at the show because it does seem to be all high end stuff and I am not confident in my ability to spot a fake. But I always have lots of fun.

If someone is going I need a favor. There is a new book on the Pratt quarter and half eagles debuting at the show and I would like a copy of it. If you can pick one up for me drop me an email. I can paypal you for the book and shipping and you should be able to ship it right there from the show floor so you don't have to carry it around.

The show started and I am in IL.

Okay, I'm done being a big baby about it. I am very lucky. I think there is a coin show within an hour's drive every two weeks around here. There's just something really fun about the Big Show.

I was there yesterday. It was the first coin show of any type I've attended. I was completely overwhelmed! There were too may vendors for me to take in. I ended up only spending a couple hundred dollars for various reasons, though the two big ones were not having a solid game plan and not realizing that most sellers don't take credit cards. I figured we were past the days where people with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise worked exclusively with cash, but I guess not! Was going to get a double eagle, but oh well!

My main plan was to fill holes in my type set but I was too vague in my own mind about just what I wanted and how much I wanted to spend. Though the biggest problem is I spent too long trying to find a seller with a decent selection of Trade dollars. What I thought I wanted was simple, a slabbed Trade dollar in AU condition (not real picky within that range) at a good price. Found a bunch of MS and PR dollars, and a number in lower grades but hardly anything in what I wanted. Though this gets back to my issue of too many sellers to take in. I may have walked right buy someone with a bunch for sale and not realized it because it was easy to lose track of where you've been and not been. I actually think it will be easier for me at a smaller show where I can spend time really seeing what sellers at most booths have.

I do agree with the comment about high end material. I found a few sellers with low grade coins and tons with high grade coins. Finding ones with a nice selection of mid-grade coins of the kinds I was looking for was a challenge.

Anyway, despite that I had a good time, filled a few 7070 holes and feel much more prepared for future shows.
