I bought and sold this coin when I was dealer. I bought it raw from a collector and had it grading by NGC.

The 1877 cent has long been a target for counterfeiters because of its high market value. Therefore it is always to good idea to buy this coin certified to be on the safe side.

So what do you think NGC graded it? Hint - My grade was different 14+ years ago.

It looks authentic, but cannot see many other diagnostics other than the weak "N". Overall, I would say a very nice VF coin... Bet it came back as an XF45 or so.

The feathers look pretty strong, but there seems to be a bit of wear on the diamonds. It seems to match the PCGS photograde picture pretty well for AU53.
Rest in Peace

Looks like Die Pair #2. I believe I can even see the raised dot on the neck at the junction of the hair and ribbon, separation between '1' and '8' and, of course, the weak 'N'.

Grading from photos has always been difficult for me but here goes:

14 yrs. ago -EF45

Seriously?

You have never seen that light tan color on a lightly circulated bronze cent especially where there are no hairlines?

1877 IHC's are noted for generally having weak diamonds.
