I recently purchased this 1955-D / D which looks to be the CONECA: RPM #2. Can any one with expertise in this variety confirm this? Thank you.

The die looks very, very, very, worn. I see die flow lines across the top of the mint mark. (that would rule out MD on the top of the mint mark) The south and the SE side of the mint mark is showing die wear. (possible the area to the south may just be die flow/wear in the direction) Inside the mint mark I see heavy die flow. But the mark below the inside of the mint mark is not showing die flow, so that maybe MD on that area. The upper serif I can see die flow on. So this may have been a minor split upper serif when the die was fresh. The mark below on the lower curve maybe MD/damage on that area. So this may have been just a split upper serif/tilted RPM. It may have never been listed. That one mark on the lower loop made us think it was a south RPM.

Thanks Coop, so are you saying that this is a RPM with a MD or damage down in the South east area? With that are filled in, does it match up with any other RPMs? Thanks for all your help.

It might be machine damage or just coin contact that altered that area. But the split upper serif is a RPM. (nothing listed for this die though that I could find) The condition of your coin would not make it one to be submitted. The die state is so far gone, that if you compared an earlier die example, it might look totally different on the upper serif. (I'd save it anyway)

I'm certain it is an RPM. I can see its not machine damaged as the second d is not just dragged along as would Machine Doubling would.

Did you read the paragraph above the image I posted?

It is the description I noticed on this coin and why I considered the mark on the lower loop as damage.
