My grandmother worked for the government when I was younger and use to travel allot, when she passed she left me quite a few things, I've only recently decided I was interested in finder a buyer for my collection, this is a true raritie and haven't actually seen 1 besides mine, it is not valued in every grade because it hasn't been that many that have came to surface. But I wanted to share this with the world. Also @swamperbob I see you have some German coin knowledge I thought you might enjoy this.

Very neat piece! As I understand it, these were struck unofficially with genuine dies...

Ah that's a Microsoft One Drive link. I knew the address looked familiar. Though it'd look better if the image was put directly in your post.
So, the coin has just a "9" instead of a full date. Is it known when they were struck?

From Krause: Quote: The 1950G dated coin was restruck without authorization by a mint official using genuine dies - quantity unknown. Mintmark J also with year 9" (instead of 1949)- Rare."

The 1950G originally has just 30.000 coins struck. Some more info about German coins and (partially) missing dates on coins (in German, from 2004): http://www.numismatikforum.de/viewt...?f=13&t=5835 Some notable quotes: Quote: es kommt immer wieder vor, nicht nur bei 50 Pf. Stücken, dass Teile oder gar die komplette Jahreszahl nicht geprägt werden. Deshalb gehe ich davon aus, dass auch BDL 50 Pfennig Münzen mit diesen Fehlern behaftet sind. "It happens over again, not just with 50 Pfennig coins, that parts or even the whole date isn't minted. I therefore assume, that also Bank Deutscher Länder 50 Pfennig coins contain such errors." Quote: 50 Pfennig Bank Deutscher Länder ohne Jahreszahl sind bekannt und kommen sehr häufig vor. "50 Pfennig Bank Deutsche Länder without a year are known coins and appear very frequent." About the value: Quote:
wie gesagt kommt diese Verprägung sehr häufig vor daher kann man schon einen Durchschnittspreis ermittelt. Diese Stücke werden in der Regel mit 5 € gehandelt, manchmal (selten) auch bis zu 10. Zu DM-Zeiten bekam man sie übrigens noch für 5 DM.
"As said, these errors appear so often that an average value can be calculated. These coins are, in general, sold for 5€, but also (seldom) up to €10. In the Deutschmark-era, you could buy these for 5 DM." This is info from 2004, so just 3 years after the introduction of the Euro. I guess inflation and so have added a bit to the price. Don't expect to become a millionaire now, though... Also, 1949J is the most common 1949 50 Pfennig coin, about 42.000.000 were struck. If you had a 1949J with Bundesrepublik Deutschland instead of Bank deutscher Länder, you would actually be on your way to become a millionaire now, as only 7 of these coins are known.

UltraRant thank you for elaborating on the commonness of such coins. I didn't know such coins existed but then I never pursued this area. Would they be considered errors, or were they also restruck like the 1950G?
