I wonder if anyone can identify this token please. As there is no denomination or date I assume it is a token. Inscription - 'Republica Mexicana'
Size - 15mm. Weight - 1.98g. Edge - reeded. Overall - lacking in sharp detail.

Many thanks in advance.

First off, welcome.

That's just bizarre.

The eagle side resembles that of the 5 centavos issues from the 1860's. Those were 14mm diameter coins, so the slightly large rim on your 15mm "coin" makes sense if that's in fact the source from which it was derived.

But a minuscule copper with a reeded edge and an apparently abstract reverse design (albeit at least some of those sqiggles rather look to be representations of snakes), well, overall makes no sense at all.

That appropriation of the national seal would've likely not sat well with the government of the period, so my thinking is either a modern piece turned out for some decorative purpose, or something produced during the revolution. But totally weird in any case.

Thank you very much for your reply and observations. Yes, it's certainly a strange item. As I said the detail is poor, particularly on the inscription side so perhaps you're right that it's a decorative item.

Looks to me like an attempt at Arabic writing, which makes no more sense than snakes.

I think the photo of the abstract side is upside down. It looks like it is trying to be petroglyphs. There is a 'myth" about Montezuma (sp) gold that was spirited away the night before the spanish attacked. It was hiden somewhere, in Mexico, or the Southwestern US, or North Pago-Pago. Anyway the petroglyphs will lead the knowing to them. Anyway, it looks similar to ones I was once shown and told if we could translate it we could find the gold...yada, yada.
