@sommoh, what a great gift!
The date on the top dinar is in kufic script around the circumference of the reverse. However, my kufic is somewhat weak and the details on this coin are pretty worn, so my reading should be considered very tentative. However, the Bismillah generally starts at about 2 o'clock so the region of interest for determining the date is from about 6 o'clock counterclockwise up through 2 o'clock, which is actually somewhat clearer in places. My best guess is AH243, but I would love confirmation from one of our other members on this.

I think the date on the first one is 248.
Still not sure about the other one.

Very helpful. Thank you all About the first coin, I couldn't find any similar coins in the exact dates you mentioned (but nice job reading the date! How did you do it? I don't see anything similar to number! ). But earlier coins of Abbasid were similar, maybe a different date? From 130 till 160, because after that the script changes to something different and even after that there is a circle around it that we don't see in this coin. And about the second coin, I found something in this site: http://www.andalustonegawa.50g.com/almohads1.htmmy best guess is "Abu Ya'qub Yusuf 558-580 / 1163- 1184" Half Dinar, but I really need your confirmation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almohad_CaliphateI AM really amazed if this is true, because I'm nowhere near Spain!!

Quote: How did you do it? Sommoh, I'll answer your question in a minute, but first I wanted to thank you for being gracious and truly interested in the coins that you posted. Lately, we have had several new folks blow in with lots of demands and very little appreciation for our opinions. You are making up for several of them in my mind. Thanks dude. As promised, here is my thinking (as well as @Sap's, as he may very well be correct). The first image shows the which century was the minting date. You will see a detail from your coin which roughly corresponds to the region of interest and then my best hand at the Kufic number on the right. The second image shows which decade was the minting date. This one is by far the most clear numeral. The third image shows which individual year was the minting date. For your reference, I have included both the three and the eight. You can decide for yourself--the coin is pretty worn so I am still unsure.

Maybe the second coin is a half dinar or dinar of the Muwahhid Dynasty (Almohads)? Sorry that I cannot be more helpful with that one.
