I've heard the advice that, for the most part, it is only worth sending in a coin to be graded if it is worth more than $200-300. Makes sense in general but I've been wondering about this in regards to gold coins. Specifically, common dates where the great majority of the coin's value is tied to the gold it contains. I'm wondering if the any premium I'd get for having it slabbed would be minor compared to selling it raw.

I'm not planning on selling any of my coins now, but since I have some other coins I'm thinking of sending in to be graded I'm debating if I should include any of my gold ones.

Any opinions are welcome!

With the increase of counterfeits on the market and these are getting harder to spot all the time, I think it makes good sense to have your Gold coins graded Just so that they are authenticated.
I would imagine that buyers are more likely to bid on a PCGS/NGC authenticated coin than a Raw coin regardless of the grade.

Authentication will definitely help with selling / marketing your coin come that time. One less concern to stop a buyer from spending.

I'd think even ANACS would be sufficient here for that purpose since the slabbing adds no value to the coin really, but would love to hear the thoughts of others.

To me their specials of 10 coins for like $100 or so with shipping almost sounds ideal for common date gold.

Definitely with gold because of the fakes. Many people won't even look at uncertified gold. With, unfortunately, good reason.

ANACS periodically has this deal, but I think they exclude gold coins with this.

Here's my list of reasons for getting a coin slabbed in priority order:
1. Authentication
2. Originality
3. Grade

IMO you get the greatest future benefit if you use PCGS or NGC.
ANACS just doesn't have that "kick" (at least not at this time).

Thanks for the feedback. Most of my coins are in my 7070 currently but I'm going to remember this if I ever think about selling them. The couple I have outside the album I will send in with other coins sometime soon.
