This set has been the centre of many discussions on the Aussie Forum Terry..and I do not think you will find too many busted sets where the coins are sold individually.
As far as I am aware of, there are only two members of the Aussie Forum who owns one of these sets.
Whilst this set is now out of reach for a normal collector on a tight budget, the 2001 Centenary of Federation 20 Coin Proof set is still within the reach of collectors. It consits of a 20 cent piece and a 50 cent piece from each of the States and Territories. Isued at AUD$250.00, it has a book value of AUD$500+.

this is pure speculation here but I think the federation gold set could if collecting trends continue as there are and there seems to be a shift in collecting to decimals as most of the younger collecters are more familial with them than predecimals , so one day in the future this set could become the 1930 penny of the decimal series with a price tag to match thought it might take 20 or more years to get there , after all how many of us if we could go nack 20 years would buy a 1930 penny at 1985 prices

Have to agree to what you are saying matey....predecimals are drying up, especially in the higher grades. Given the old supply and demand rule, this has forced the price of predecimals where young collectors can no longer afford to buy them.

I agree that the Collectors who have only ever known decimal coinage will tend to specialise in that area, which is good for Decimal Collectors. The weird thing about pre-Decimal Coins is that there are no new ones being minted, so it's the same old Coins being continously bought and resold, bought and resold, ad infinitum- almost like a perfect form of recycling!

Absolutely RB...each time it is recycled, it goes up slightly in price. Only on rare occassions do we hear about someone stumbling across a stashed away lot by a grannie. That time won't be far off when your normal penny of today will be a treasured collectors item of tomorrow.

I received a flyer from Downies regarding 2006 Berlin Show Mint Set. Its basically the same 2006 set but the cover has a seal saying Berlin Show, limited to 1,500. I guess I'm wondering why its special?

The coins are the same Malsha, only the packaging is "different". However, there are collectors who see this as being different and then pay big dollars just to secure one.

I have a number of customer that chase this sort of thing. They will buy 3 or 4 of the same item to get all the packaging and variations in the coins.
