The 2006 RAM Proof and Mint sets of our circulating tender has been released. Of particular interest is the round 50 cents coin and the inclusion of the one and Two Cents coin in the set.One and Two Cent coins were last minted in 1991 and the round 50 cents was only minted once before in 1966 when we changed over to decimal system. 2006 Proof Set 2006 Mint Uncirculated Set The one and Two Cent coins are included in the Uncirculated sets as well but the fifty cents coin in this set follows the normal circulating 12 sided coin. I think the RAM has issued winners this time as collectors will be keen to acquire the round 50 cents and the new I and 2 cents.... Edited by rggoodie 12/26/2005 8:35 pm

Will Aussie dealers and collectors bust these sets open and sell coins individually? That would be the way I would want to go. Just buy the "keepers" of the set!

All of the sets come out then shortly after some one wil bust them open. Although I am into Australian coins, I can not collect all of them It bankrupt me and a couple of the local banks . Take a look at just the new monthly offerings www.newcastlecoins.com.auSo my research coins are my pre decimals and my current collection focus is on 50c coins dollar coins kookaburras Kangaroos lunars (gold & silver) special issues that interest me. Anyone have a spare winning lottery ticket?

Since the first decimal sets were minted in 1966, I have bought two of each (Proof & Uncirculated)One is for busting open, so that I can get my grubby hands on the individual coins for display in dedicated denomination albums eg a 5 cents album, 10 cents and so on... . There is a seller here in Oz who is known for breaking up sets and sell the coins individually..PM me and I will tell you who that dealer is. As for the true beauty of decimal coins, IMHO nothing will even come close to the ones minted for the Wedding Sets, they are your true specimen coins in GEM grade. RG is absolutely right in saying that it can send you to the poor house if you try to keep up with every issue and there are heaps of them every year.... We are all but pawns in this grand conspiracy of the Mints....but what a nice conspiracy to be implicated in....[:p]

My pleasure... Have a close look at the 50 cents to see whether it is of the "double bar variety". So far, no collector has reported coming across one yet, but you never know....

I imagine it will be a week or two before they arrive here but I will be sure to have a look! Thanks again!

What are the mintages for these sets? DO you think it'll be a quick sell out?

IMHO there will be a lot of demand for these two sets. There is a fair bit of rave over the round 50 cents and the 1 & 2 cent coins. Unfortunately, mintages are not known yet. I have ordered two of each and should be receiving them sometime next week ( I hope), can't wait to actually see them in the flesh.

The Fine Silver Proof Set for 2005 is out.The FSPS series commenced in 2003 and is a representation of Australia's circulating coins in silver instead of Cu-Ni. The RAM has maintain the limited mintage of 6,500 sets only and is beautifully presented/housed in a jarrah box. Issue price is AUD$220.00.

Oophs....that is the 2005 FSPS that came out last year....the one for 2006 is not out yet. In my glee I thought it is for 2006, my apologies for any problems caused. This will teach me to engage my mind in gear first in future. Nevertheless,it is a beautiful set...[:p]

I'm sure there is an easy way to find the answer to this question, but I'll just ask. How does the Australian dollar compare with the US dollar? When I see coins for sale using Australian dollars as the price, I wonder what the US equivilent is.
Thanks.
