My priest friend is just a great guy and has been a wonderful friend of my wife's family all his life. I now count him among my close trusted circle of friends as well. I feel absolutely privileged to be a part of this amazing collection and am so happy he entrusted me with this collection. Every time I open the album and look at the individual coins closer I'm blown away. Seriously. I don't really know world coins very well but I love all coins and the history of these coins are mindboggling. And what's even crazier... this is just Coin Album #1. (I wonder if I send this all to a TPG if they would designate this as a "Father Q Hoard"?)

Quote: I haven't seen one yet. But, since I don't own these coins, I couldn't use it anyway... I would let you post it via proxy. Looking forward to the next album.

This is the most awesome show'n'tell ever to hit this forum during my sojourn.
I am actually seeing some affordable pieces among the wonderful silver. The condition of that French ecu blows me away. These are typically well worn. The Victoria Jubilee crown is common. I own a 2 reale like the Ferdinand one shown. Columbus could have handled this coin ! I hope coinworldtv sees and responds to this thread. He probably knows more about these various pieces than any of us.

Quote:(I wonder if I send this all to a TPG if they would designate this as a "Father Q Hoard"?) I hate to rain on your parade but these appear to be cleaned coins in average grades, probably not worth sending to a TPG. I agree that they are a wonderful collection!

Quote: I hate to rain on your parade but these appear to be cleaned coins in average grades, Ok. I admit to having gone a little overboard. When one collects US coins almost exclusively (Me), one can get pretty excited by seeing a very nice detailed 1747 coin. I'll quit posting cleaned average coins.

I see no reason to be selective. Posting as much as you can will allow us to comment on what is good or bad about them. I think this remains a good learning experience.

Oh no ..... Don't stop ... post what catches your eye. We all know it was common in the days past to clean coins. Some of the coins you have been posting, are coins many U.S. collectors will never see. Those older silver and gold coins can still have good value. This story is so interesting ... I have been telling people about it at the LCS's. Everyone is saying how cool it would be just to be able to look through a collection like this.

RE: The Father Q Hoard Since the priest that found the coins didn't know that Father Q was a collector -- maybe he wasn't. Maybe Father Q got these as a gift or inheritance. Now you have to find out if Father Q collected or not and if not -- who gave him the collection. Anyway, it's really fun to see these. You must be having a blast! And there's more to come!

I do not know for sure, but Father Q might have been a collector. Many of us keep this hobby to ourselves, outside of the community.
