So as many of you know, the deciding factor in getting me hooked on coin collecting was a 1964 half dollar that one of the tellers saved for me. That was over a year ago, and my silver stash has since accumulated to maybe 10 dollars face value.
Well today, I went back to this exact bank for the first time in maybe 2 months (Keep in mind this is the bank I scored the 1950 5 and 10 dollar bills from last December) and noticed some changes right off the bat.
-The guy who normally does work in the cubicle (someone with this position helped me create my account there) was standing next to the teller window. -There was a security guard who was not there last time I went here. -None of the tellers who have saved old bills or coins for me were there, which makes me believe they got transferred or left.
As soon as I walked in, the guard and the cubicle guy were both watching me. I said hi, but got no response from either of them. Then when I went to the teller window, I fumbled around for some old ratty bills I wanted to exchange, and the guard put his hand on his gun. I finally handed the teller 14 ones to exchange for bills in newer condition, which she did.
I can understand a bank having a guard by the door who opens the door for people, but having both the cubicle guy and the guard WATCH me while I was trying to conduct a normal transaction crossed the line. I left after that feeling unnerved and had a hunch that something bad happened at this bank since they recently got a security guard, and sure enough, that place got robbed 2 weeks ago.
I decided after reading that article to not use that particular branch again even though it's walking distance from my house. Considering they were robbed not long ago, I think I'd be better off using my other pickup banks where the tellers know me on a first name basis. I just wanted to mention this because the bank that I no longer want to go to is the one that I always went to when I was in my early days of coin and bill collecting.

I think you are over reacting.
The security guard is over reacting too.
Give it time and it will settle back down.

Yeah I made a typo and it actually got robbed on 8/16 after reading the article closer. I think everyone there is just on edge since its been only 3 days since they were robbed and maybe it will relax a bit in the next few months.

It's amazing how many banks get robbed in the U.S. almost every day .

I won't say you lost your pickup bank. I can fully understand that they're still a bit weak in the knees after just having been robbed. Go back there in a few weeks or months and you probably find that all is 'back to normal'. It might actually be that your regular counters were at work when the bank was robbed and that they therefore weren't at work when you were there. A robbery isn't a minor thing to witness.
When I was still in school I had a side job in a shop. I once worked for a week in another store of the same chain that just had been robbed. The regular staff was given some time off and some psychological help to get over the event. The store also had hired some extra security to give both customers and employees an extra feeling of safety.

Give them another chance or two. But if you continue to feel uncomfortable there then it's time to move on. Too bad. It's nice to have a decent neighborhood bank where people know you. I used to have that a long time ago and I miss it.

I lost all six of my pickup banks two years ago. Fed up, I told them all, 'You're fired!'

Getting robbed is sometimes more than inconvenient, it can be life changing. I've even known victims to change political party affiliation.

Be honest - do you look suspicious?

Give it some time and hopefully the tensions will calm down ... understandable if they were recently robbed.
