The Red Book says there's a 1974 D Dbl Die Obverse. When going through the halves I bought at the bank yesterday I found some doubling on the reverse. Is this quite common since it's not listed? (I didn't find any doubling on the front.)

This looks a lot like Strike Doubling to me...but I'm no expert; I'm sure you'll get more input.

Machine doubling. Shelf like and flat with no notching the edges of the devices. Happens a lot of the larger coinage. Finding one without if is sometimes a challenge.
Although a very minor example, (Only one I have of a DDR in the Kennedy series on my server) here is what to look for when I mention notching:

A few Obverse doubled/tripled dies to see the hub doubling/tripling:

magus; looks like there's more than the shelf-like doubling described above. Cherry Pickers describes this DDO as "Strong doubling is evident on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, and the date. You can also compare it to CONECA's CONENCA 1-0-1. If you type in "1974 D Kennedy DDO" in your web browser you'll come up with lots of websites with images of it.

CONECA also has a listing for a DDR for your coin.
Type that into your browser, too.

It's only Machine Doubling and nothing else.

I agree it's Machine Doubling.

I also have pictures of doubling on the reverse of Kennedys that is die doubling.

Got to:

Go down to the article on Kennedys....

Thanks,
Bill
