TPG's tend to go easy on these so it's probably in an EF-40 slab.

VF-35. I think it has been cleaned although it probably does not say that on the holder. It's got a washed out color that you usually don't see on circulated gold that has original surfaces.

I agree with EF-40, problem-free label.
The thousands of mint-state coins recovered from the Central America mean this is by far the most common date Type 1 double eagle. Circulated examples however are scarce. If population were the only factor that determined price, circulated 1857-S coins would cost more than MS!
