Hello all,

This may be a newbie question but I just posted a 1997-P Washington quarter with a die clash on reverse and another member just posted the exact same die clash today on a 1995-P quarter. Both of eye and both identical. Is this common on die clashes-to have different years with same clash in same place?

It all depends on the dies that are created. Some years have changes done on them and that maybe the normal for one year. IE: The 1973 reverse die has a large 'FG'. That is only found on one year. IE: the 2001-2004 obverse devices are larger than other years. So when you look at these coins, you have to compare them with examples from that year to see what was normal for that year. Some reverses were used for decades. So it all depends on what is normal for that year. Normally they are the same There are years with large and small varieties for one reason or another that will be different. They are called year varieties. 1960, 1970, 1974, and so on. On these years certain ones may be a premium coin. Why? Because less of them were made. (1960 Philly small date less are known) (1970-S was the only one that has a premium as they are few that year) If there is not difference in price they were all common. (1974 cents all are common, no special demand for them)
On the 1998-2000 cents there was an issue with two different sets of dies used incorrectly creating a year variety on both the business strike and some proof strikes with the wrong reverse design used those years. So while the dies maybe different, they may also be the same as I mentioned for decades. Perhaps your find inspired the finder of the second one, the idea to look there for a clash line and it paid off for him. The threads are not just read by one person, but all who read here benefit. Hope this helps.

Well if both years used the same design, the dies will be in the press the same orientation and d if they come together they will most likely leave the same clashmarks in the same places. The marks may be shifted slightly in one direction or another, but they will look pretty much the same.
