Hi all. I'm looking at various liberty head nickels and again and again I'm seeing AU coins with lots of marks in fields, usually going in one direction (left to right).
Since I have no experience with those coins I rather ask here. Are those polished or is that normal wear?

That looks like a possible cleaning, and the pics aren't that good. Maybe try and look at some photos of slabbed versions of what you are looking for to learn what they look like.

Look at the "die breaks" on this one:

Thank you. Yes, the pic is out of focus ...
I will go with the general rule that if something raises a flag of doubt, don't buy it.

Did you have bad experience? I bought from him three times, all ok.
I tend to look for free int. shipping, otherwise costs get really high for me.

I have purchased from this seller, and a lot of the seller's coins are problem coins that are scratched, cleaned or damaged. The seller provides no information about the problems and often you can not pick up the issues from the seller's scans. The coin in question appears to have been cleaned.

See the link below on a 1889 O Morgan the seller calls the coin uncirculated in the title. The coin is not even close to being uncirculated. The coin at best is a AU53, and the coin is already priced in auction like a MS60 with 7 hours to go. Buyer beware when purchasing a coin from this seller as the coin description in title is not accurate.

Agree likely cleaning - surfaces are unnatural-looking with swirly patches. Pass.
