I have been trying to pick up more token and medals,
when I see them.

Hoping some experts here might know if these would fall into
the So-called dollar category.

Don't know how to classify those token-wise, but certainly piqued my interest in the personage depicted.

Generally they are redeemable for the amount shown for a certain time period. BUt as with all things in the token area they fit the broadest general definition of the term

I have heard there is a book on So-called dollars.

I might have to get a copy if I end up getting a lot of these tokens.

"Irish Dollar" sounds like it is used as a trade token. If so, then it would not be classified as a so-called dollar.

If these pieces were used as tokens (even on a limited basis) they would generally not be considered so-called dollars. With only a few potential exceptions, all of the SCDs listed in the book by Hibler and Kappan are commemorative medals not tokens and therefore never had a monetary value.

This link is a great explanation of what constitutes an "official" so-called dollar:

http://socalleddollar.com/longdefinition.html

What you have are usually called Municipal tokens and were issued with or without a monetary value to commemorate a city or state's anniversary. They were very popular in the 1950's, 60's and 70's. I have 100's of them and there are probably 1000's that were produced. To my knowledge there is not a reference on them either in print or on-line. I usually pick them up for $1.00 or less at my local coin shops. Below are a few of my favorites!
