Why would you know for sure? The presence or absence of the VDB tells us nothing other than to help verify the date, not the MM or lack thereof.

If it helps any, the spot on the coin does line up with an overlay of the "D" on a 1918-D cent.

Most have a die crack between the bust and the rim. I'm not seeing it, or at least not one in the proper place. AS for the vdb? I see what everyone is seeing....but....there are other marks of similar nature to the right and left. I love that line illustration! I'm going to remember that!
