Why would you know for sure? The presence or absence of the VDB tells us nothing other than to help verify the date, not the MM or lack thereof.

I misunderstood, I didn't realize you were just trying to verify the mint mark.

If it helps any, the spot on the coin does line up with an overlay of the "D" on a 1918-D cent.

LOL.. I saw that on ebay a few days ago and actually threw a few bids on it until finally backing out.

Most have a die crack between the bust and the rim. I'm not seeing it, or at least not one in the proper place. AS for the vdb? I see what everyone is seeing....but....there are other marks of similar nature to the right and left. I love that line illustration! I'm going to remember that!
