What do you think? I don't own the coin yet, but should be in the mail in the next week.

Looks like it to me, but it's so mangled that it's tough to say for sure.
Rest in Peace

I got it for a good price, and thought it would be cool to have.

The mint mark, if that's what it is, appears to me to be in the wrong place for a genuine 1914-D. One other thing that caught my eye, is that a VDB under the bust?

It looks more like a 1918 to me.

Wow...that's a tough one to call. I was thinking 1912 initially, but maybe a 1918. I don't think it's a 1914; just a well placed scratch to clip the top left of another digit to make it look like a 4. But in hand, it might look like a 4. With that, the placement of the MM would contribute to a better diagnosis.

Your coin is not a genuine 1914-D.

A line drawn down the diagonal slope of the four of a 1914 Lincoln Cent would NOT intersect the "1" to its left.

On this coin, this line DOES intersect the "1".

Probably not but even if it is it's scrap metal in that condition. Sorry to be blunt but it's the truth.

I guess I just can't understand the appeal of a junker like this where the MM cannot be verified. It isn't even a respectable hole-filler.

I doubt it ... and the multiple glaring close-up photographs do nothing to add to our ability to help.

Are you able to show a clear, in-focus photo of both the obverse and reverse? That would be very helpful for us to help you

Look for the VDB on the obverse, if it's there, you will know fort sure.
