I am thinking of continuing my commemorative collection and was going to work in order. I have the Columbian Expo halves and figured the Isabella Quarter would be next but I had never even heard of it before I looked for the next date. What do you guys think? Anyone else have a similar dilemna?

I think that if you try to collect them in order you might miss some very good prices on certain ones. Id keep your options open for any of the early commemoratives and when the price is right...get it

You could go the route of only collecting the half dollar commems. After the pricey Isabella Quarter, you have the equally pricey Lafayette Dollar and then there are all the gold comemms. A large majority of the half dollar commems can be purchased in mint state for under $250 but the Isabella and Lafayette are 2-3x that much and all of the gold ones are well over $500 each in low mint state grades.

I think you are just trying too hard at it. Get what you like when it crosses your path and see where you are at down the road when you only need a few to complete a set.

Thanks everyone. Philney, that really makes sense. I guess I just usually try to put things in a specific framework. OCD maybe?

I have OCD too, serious case, but have been able to control it with a combo drug/coin collecting therapy.
Buy a generic half dollar album rather than a commemorative-specific one. You can fill it in with coins in the order you buy them and keep a separate checklist that you can carry around in your wallet. This way you can concentrate on the single type (halves) and not let your process get cluttered by your affliction.

I bought an Isabella a few months ago. I have been working on a commem half set slowly. I realized that it was kinda out of the framework of what I was looking to do. However I got it at a great price and I am very happy with the coin but keeping with one set is definitely the way to go

I recently purchased a Isabella Quarter and consider it very important in my collection. Recommend you buy slab coins or a good dealer you trust for raw coins.

I think most collectors either suffer from some type of OCD or they don't seem to collect very long. My problem is keeping my concentration on one thing

As to the original question, if you really like those coins then go for it. I like the Isabella Quarter and the gold commemoratives but they're too expensive for me to try to complete a set like that. Maybe in the future...
