I have a chance to bid on this soon at an estate auction......but why would I "want" to ? Is there a value to having this coin (fake) that I don't see?
And what price ranges would be recommended to purchase ?
I'm not into fake (counterfeit) coins as far as collecting, but I wouldn't be "against" having one or two that I BOUGHT ON PURPOSE AND KNOWINGLY! Ha Ha.....no...as far as "I" know, I don't have any counterfeits, but I know "some" that are identified "can" be collectible....question is.........IS "THIS" ONE, one of those?

Other particular coins at this auction I HOPE are NOT counterfeits, but they've "listed" this coin as a "fake".....so....kinda curious if anyone knows something about these.

Well, it can't really be a fake since Grover Cleveland has never been featured on a coin, at least until his Pres dollars are issued in 2012. Yes, I said dollars because he was the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms so he gets two. He is on the $1000 bill though. Anything with GC on it would be more of a fantasy piece since it has never actually existed.

eaglefoot,

Is it a coin with a specified denomination, or is it a medal?

Yet more evidence that the people holding this estate auction are clueless?
Get us some pictures, eaglefoot!

Guys....nope...no "denomination" specified !
Of many others listed it just says....
"1887 Grover Cleveland "Fake" coin".........(and they put "fake" in quotations!)
This is why I LOVE estate auctions......AND ALSO WHY THEY INFURIATE ME ! Ha Ha
You just never really know what you can get there ! And if no other serious coin collectors show up.....you can get some really awesome deals sometimes !
I got a thousand wheat head pennies for $50.00 one time !.....key dates too ! in the 1900's, the 1910's. the 1920's, the '30's, the 40's and 50's.......THAT was a steal !
But, back to the point.......I'm just really getting "scared" at the idea of making that mistake on the 1793 Cent !
I have until Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. to make up my mind as to whether to go or not.......IF I GO, I'LL GO AS HIGH AS $500.00 and no more.....
But, i'll be too embarrased to show my face "here" ever again, if it turns out to be a fake (judged by everyone here with my pics of it)......Mercy ! Ha ha
The Grover Cleveland one......I'm only curious about this thing......if it's just a medal....then that's garbage to me really......
