If the color is realistic, then I would say it has been cleaned and re-toned to a lifeless, metallic look. Looks dead, possibly a copy.

Circulated to likely the XF range ... unable to judge the surface condition from the photos provided.
My experience tells me that the coin has likely had some 'adjustments' to the surfaces ... you need to decide on your personal collecting standards.
This is indeed one of the best Classic Silver Commemorative designs ... my personal favorite ...
Best of wishes for your 7070 pursuit.

Agree it is a wonderful design! Any coin with even partial original surfaces should show some sparkle when rotated - this looks more like a lead copy.

Quote: do the surfaces look original on this example? Not to me, they don't. This is a VERY commonly counterfeited coin, especially the 1926-S. I would be very careful authenticating this the best you can before buying it (or as soon as possible after buying it).

What specifically should I look out for as far as this being a counterfeit? You guys have me worried now.

I'm a bit concerned about this coin as well. The patina looks similar to some of the fake classic commemoratives coming out of the far east these days. They specifically target circulated coins since it is easier to pass them off than BU where they would have to get the luster right.

The seller has a 14 day full refund policy. I should have this coin in hand tomorrow. Would you guys just send it back?

Here is a fake 1926 S Oregon being offered for $1.49 from a prominent site that sells fakes. Looks very similar unfortunately.

Please check out my pics I just added below the sellers pics and let me know if you agree that it's a fake. I don't have any scales but the coin does have the silver "ring" to it but I would guess the fakes probably have the ring as well.
