I found this in the register at work. Just curious if anyone has seen something like this ever? Also need to know if it is PMD or damage from the minting process. Please all answers are welcome, take a look for yourself.

The coin looks like its not flat, more like a saucer. I am believe that's PMD. Maybe someone hit it with a hammer or they drove the end of a pipe into the coin

heres a better one showing how the eagle stretched with the impression is undamaged. I'm still unsure what caused this.

im not too sure now. It looks as though with these new quarter they have to dies. one for the outer part, and one for the inner on the back only. Perhaps they struck it more than once on the center punch? Just a theory. Also what kind of tool could create that impression without harming the center, it seems untouched. only where it was pressed was affected, and also it almost looks threaded but it isn't really. Sorry for question, I'm just kind of new to errors and hope someone else could offer some sort of opinion, and maybe you have seen a similiar quarter somewhere.

That's a very plausible theory that I agree with. It's just a damaged coin. It surly did not leave the mint mint looking this way

A close up of the devices. would help. If the deices are flattened on that area, I would agree with PSD. If it happened during the normal striking then the coin would be flat. But if they are flat and the coin is not flat, then it is PSD. The location is almost dead on for coin wrapper damage, but I've never seen it damage the coin to make if bulge out on the opposite side. But either way, it is PSD. (did not happen during the strike)
