Does anyone have any knowledge or idea about a canadian penny George V with no date or markings on reverse other than canada. It was not worn off and must have been produced that way? Any info would be good. Thank you. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** Edited by joshstone 09/02/2016 09:03 am

. To CCF It would be easier to give a opinion on your coin if we could see a picture. Also ... You might get more responses if you posted this in the Canadian coin Section. Maybe one of the mods can move it.

Josh, welcome to the forum, you definitely have an interesting coin.
is it possible for you to provide us with larger images?
I would say that your coin is either one of 2 things
1) someone's charm, where they removed the devices leaving just the CANADA
or
2) the coin was struck through something like grease
however the possibility of just leaving the entire word CANADA would be low.
if you give us larger images we can definitely let you know.

Shows little circulation wear, and no signs of grinding. I don't know what to say. Seen many love tokens that still have the edging and little to no damage to the obverse. Will remain a mystery without large clear pics and would likely take an expert to view it in hand. My guess is a good machinist back in the day could do something like this in 15 minutes.

I took the liberty of enlarging the OP picture to get a better idea of whats happening. I doubt if it is Struck Through Grease as the fields would not be so smooth. To me if you look closely around Canada and the rims, it looks like someone has milled it out. (A jeweler maybe?) You can barely see traces of the original legends. Maybe someone was going to inscribe it and make a piece of jewelry.

if there was a weight, we might be able to see if some material was removed, but we may need an accurate scale for that.

I think that it was altered many years ago and has retoned. It looks like the edges/rim have been in a vise or holder of some sort and there is discoloration where the relief lettering was. I like the looks though.

I've got a silver 5-cent coin very similar to this one, looks blank but if you hold it up to the light on an angle the original image is still there in spots. I figure someone just smoothed it out to make room for a message but never got around to engraving it. I'm guessing this penny is the same thing. Cool coin, joshstone. A bit of an oddity for the collection; I'd keep it just for the novelty!

joshstone I will attach a link take read of that link. I think you may have another piece of a puzzle. I think these were test coins. because the mint was changing the large penny. to a small penny in the 1920s. could be other pieces out there that tie these all together. https://goccf.com/t/195229&whichpage=3
