There are two examples of a matching cast Numismatic Forgery on ebay. One is being sold as a forgery while the second is being sold as genuine. First the one being sold as genuine.

Next the one being sold as a forgery.

I want to make a couple points - the coin being sold as a "forgery" which weighs 23.3 grams and has a blank edge has 25 bids with a high bid of $ 91. The coin is a FORGERY not a Counterfeit that circulated. It is essentially worthless. It is of minimal study value because it is a centrifugal cast copy.

The coin with the hideous edging job (looks like a knurl was used) weighs 26.6 grams and was just posted.

Having two coins from identical mold images but from different sellers is not at all common, especially where one seller (forgery) has a decent reputation. I do not know the other seller.

These are $1 to $5 cast fakes. They are poster Children for the worthless Numimatic Forgeries that plague ebay.

The first coin was withdrawn by the seller after I wrote to him/her and told him/her what they had. Apparently they had bought several of the same thing.

The second coin which was listed as a forgery BROUGHT a hammer price of $ 159.38 plus $ 3.50 shipping. I estimate the actual value at melt.

So there are apparently many different people who believe these VERY BAD copies are real.

The word is not spreading very fast I am afraid.
