Hi everyone I was hoping I could get some information on a coin I foun recently. It is a 2014 $2 remembrance coin and it appears to have an error on the word 'Elizabeth' where all the letter except the'B' seem flat and not as visible. I have searched google and read one post where someone has had similar coins. I would like to know what this type of error is called and how it occurs and also is it what we classify as a variation?
I'm am still very new to collecting and any info is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Matt

Also can anyone explain how only one letter is still raised? If this was caused by a weak strike how can the 'B' still apear ok

I believe this is a " Grease Filled Die". It is reasonably common on those coins, but not very common on most other coins.

Unfortunately, it's a bit hard for me to comment because I only have 3 of these coins, and I don't think any of them have this particular error.

This is probably caused by a Grease Filled Die where the grease prevents some of the design being transferred to the coin
