Voting closed on August 31, 2016. Canada's top four favourite birds, as decided by popular vote, are shown here: http://nationalbird.canadiangeographic.ca

Following public voting, ornithologists, authors and cultural experts will now debate which species should be named Canada's National Bird. Canadian Geographic's official declaration — based on votes, essays and the recommendations of experts such as Bird Studies Canada's biologists — will be released in the December 2016.

The goal of the National Bird Project, is to help designate an official bird for Canada by 2017, the country's sesquicentennial.

Personally, I'm happy with the Loon and alternatively could live with the Snowy owl, but please... please... not the Canada goose!

At least the Brown-headed cowbird didn't win.

I always assumed it was the Canada Goose, it was honoured on the 1967 Silver Dollar and the 1988 $100 banknote, no idea we never had an official bird.

Having said that, I'm glad it isn't, anyone living anywhere near water in Canada probably hates them by now or is at least sick of them lol.

Loons OK but it's already Ontario's official bird, personally I like the Raven, they're very intelligent birds.
