Back in the day, I was able to stick with it and 2 rolls of each State Quarter design as they were released. My theory at the time was that, since I could only get P-mint rolls, I could trade them with someone who did the same thing with D-mint rolls. (Actually, I did get OH D-mint rolls, because of strike at the time by Mint workers in Philadelphia).

Fast forward to now, and these rolls are tough to sell for more than face value. Although they are SUPER HEAVY, presumably they could be shipped in flat rate USPS boxes for a somewhat reasonable cost.

Is it time to give up the dream of a complete P & D roll set of these State Quarters? Maybe I should just keep the 2 sets, keeping in mind that inflation is likely eroding their value.

It's up to you to decide whether or not this is something you want to keep pursuing this.

You might be able to sell one roll set and use that money to acquire the D mints your missing.

There have been complete roll sets sold on ebay here's one seller http://www.ebay.com/itm/Complete-50...AOSw~gRVqTop

If you are going to buy rolls for a roll set, you best bet is at coin shows. The premium value for the rolls is so low that it doesn't make much sense to sell them by mail. (most of the rolls cost about $11.50 or so per roll. The cost of shipping would be way more than the premium received for the rolls, so the buyer would HAVE to pay for the shipping. That would make the rolls cost much more that they would cost buying them at a show.

The problem with buying them at a show is that they are so heavy and bulky for so little return that most dealers won't bring them to the show. They send to bring the most recent releases but not older ones. But if you can find a dealer that carries the recent rolls you could probably contact them before the next show and have them bring you the older rolls you need.

And remember if you ever want to sell the roll set you will run into the same problem. Since the dealer needs to make money he probably won't offer more than face value for the rolls (Possibly less then face! Why because he doesn't want to lug them around, and the fastest way for him to move them and make a little profit may be to just deposit them at the bank. Yes this does happen.)

It never even occurred to me that a "roll set" would be sold on ebay. According to that listing MVC posted, in July TWO of those sets have sold for $750 each (150% of face value) which doesn't include the territories OR tell you which Mint Mark the rolls are.

Is there any way that is possible?

I recognize that these sets are not a good investment, although it is hard to imagine someone so lazy as to sell them for less than face value. Perhaps it is best to keep one roll set as a testament to my 10 year project of 5x yearly trips to the bank, and let the other one go.
