A friend found this last week in a roll he got from bank and asked me to see if it's real and if it has value or should he just keep it. My personal opinion is that if it has value he could post it on ebay, but if not just keep it for fun.

It is a cent planchet. They are usually good for a dollar or two on ebay, but this one is scratched up pretty bad. Would make a nice pocket piece for conversation though!

Thanks, I looked up a few on ebay. I think I'll tell him to keep it. Like you say good conversation piece. I think someone scratched it to see if it was a clad or not. It is post 82'.

The title sounds strange when you look at it and think a bit: Blank Planchet Penny Type 2 I think The unique thing about the Type 1 and type two is this.
Type 1 is a blank.
Type two is a planchet.
What is the difference between the two?
The blank is run through an upset mill and then becomes a planchet.
Or put another way: A type 1 goes through the upset mill and becomes a type 2
Key word, becomes.

I don't want to upset any one. (pun intended) But here is the machine that does it:
