I found this penny with what looks like a 1 on top of the 7 in 1979. I'm pretty sure that is not possible but I don't know what caused this anomaly. I'm new at this so any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi to the CCF. to me it looks like the 7 took a hit and that displaced part of the 7.

Sometimes coin operated machines will do this to coins. Especially the old penny gum ball machines.

Just a well placed hot that damaged your coin.
