I don't know what to call this. Bought an 1885 P Morgan at a cull price; when I got it home, I found where there was additional metal at the M in America. What causes it? What is it called?

Sorry that I only have a scanner.

Would those result in additional metal on the planchet?

A lam would not "add" metal to a coin and a struck through might like a struck through foil if the foil "stuck" to the coin. Also, a Cud doesn't "add" metal to a coin either it just re-positions it.

Hey guys you don't happen to notice the faint word between the laurel and the right wing of the eagle? I think he might have a clash coin on top of whatever else he has going on.

Probably dried glue. Give it a nice acetone bath for an hour or so. It will melt away glue and other gunk and not hurting the coin.
Use real acetone from hardware store, not the one to remove nail polish :).

AU90o did you notice anything off about the right wing on the eagle? Looks like there is some metal missing from it.

It looks like part of the thin lamination on the 'M'. It may have extended to the missing area on the wind that look like a triangle.

It may be missing metal there, it's not easy to see or tell by touch.
